Day three of our snowsports review session brought us to the little are of Golm. The weather that day seemd to be a summary of the previous two days; with occasional heavy snow fall and moments later the sun, shining with a vengeance. We had started on day one in smaller Gargellen, and after a day in the large Montafon area our finale was once again in a smaller area. Golm. 27km of slopes, 3 gondolas, 4 chairs and 2 drag lifts is not much. But what a nice day we had.

The gondola ride to the top initially gave some mixed feelings because you actually go up parallel to a huge pipe line that generates hydraulic energy. Not very au naturel nor charming, to say the least. But when you arrive at the Berghof Golm Grüneck (1890m) and higher up the Golmer Joch (2124), you are treated to amazing views of the magnificent Sulzfluh, Drei Türme, Drusenfluh and Schesaplana peaks. As Stijn says in the film, it really gives you the feeling that you are in the high mountains.

Golm is known as a family area, and we can certainly confirm that, but our high performance testers Dees (snowboard) and Stijn (ski) also enjoyed their time in Golm.The reason for this is that it is indeed small, but as a result, it is easy to over sea everything, with very wide piste where you can really open up the throttle and get up to speed (depending on how busy it is of course). Bombing down the piste, with high speed carve turns. Wonderful. There is also a long black piste, the Diabolo, but it was closed when we were there. In addition, you can find a lot of fun almost anywhere besides the piste; here and there compact tree runs that give just that little bit of powder excitement. There are also a few variant routes that you can take with the right avalanche equipement.

In contrast to that ugly pipe line, we passed many small huts and also ended our day at a private wooden house where we received “haus gebrannte schnaps” from the very friendly and hospitable owner. The strong stuff really warmed us up again. It was not the first time that we enjoyed the hospitality in this area. Lugging around all our review gear (12 skis, 6 snowboards) we were consistently helped by very helpful lift staff. Thumbs up!
