The ThruDark Charge outdoor trousers | Review

De ThruDark Charge outdoorbroek

I tried the ThruDark Charge Trousers outdoor trousers this past summer during my activities in Wales, Scotland and Switzerland. These pants are made from a unique blend of durable materials that are breathable and resistant to water and wind. The primary material in the pants is high-quality Utexbel cotton, also used in the army. This cotton is reinforced with ripstop technology and has a DWR coating to make it water and wind-resistant.

ThruDark is a brand that distinguishes itself in outdoor clothing by combining tactical functionality and stylish design. The brand was founded by former Special Forces members, who use their expertise and experience to create robust and reliable clothing. The philosophy behind ThruDark is to develop products that can withstand the most demanding conditions without sacrificing style and comfort.

Comfort & Fit

The fit of the ThruDark Charge Trousers is genuinely excellent. The pants fit nicely to the body without restricting movements. The material has good stretch, allowing you to move quickly during physical activities such as walking or climbing. In addition, the adjustable waistband ensures that you can adjust the pants perfectly to your body. Even during long hikes, the pants remain comfortable without irritation or chafing.

Fabric

The ThruDark Charge Trousers are made of high-quality and durable materials. The stretch fabric from Serates, an Italian manufacturer, ensures you can move comfortably. In addition, the material is breathable, which prevents you from sweating during intensive activities. Instead of traditional knee protection, it used Dyneema, a material stronger than steel, to provide optimal durability against scuffs and scratches without weight. In addition, high-tenacity Cordura has been added to strengthen the ankle and lower leg, as these areas often experience more wear and tear.

Design ThruDark Charge Trousers

The design of the pants is cool and functional. The pants have several pockets in which you can easily store small items and, in some pockets, larger items, such as a telephone or keys. They also have a handy system that allows you to adjust the trouser legs. This provides extra versatility and functionality. What also struck me is that a lot of attention has been paid to finishing the trousers.

Wind and water tightness

I experienced different weather conditions during my hikes, from downpours to strong wind gusts. The pants positively surprised me in terms of wind and water resistance. Even during heavy rain, I stayed dry thanks to the water-repellent properties of the material. The pants also protect against the wind, which is a great advantage, especially during cold days.

Sustainability

An essential aspect of outdoor clothing is durability, and the ThruDark Charge Trousers certainly do not disappoint in this area. The material feels sturdy and has shown no signs of wear after intensive use. I am confident that these pants will withstand many more adventures without any problems.

Features

The ThruDark Charge outdoor pants have several useful features that make wearing them even more pleasant. In addition to the aforementioned adjustable waistband and adjustable trouser legs, the trouser legs are also equipped with lace hooks. As expected from a pair of trousers called ‘Charge’, the capacity is excellent. This builds on the thinking behind traditional cargo or military pants. Two large ‘cargo’ pockets provide ample storage space for essential expedition items, such as an OS map, a spare hat or a first aid kit. There are two hand pockets plus the addition of two hip pockets.

Final thoughts

Overall, I am very satisfied with the ThruDark Charge Trousers outdoor trousers . It offers comfort, durability and functionality. Whether hiking, climbing or camping, these pants are highly recommended. I recommend it to all outdoor enthusiasts looking for high-quality and reliable trousers. Although – like me – you have to love the large ‘cargo’ pockets.

At €346.95, the ThruDark Charge Trousers are not considered cheap. However, it is a worthwhile investment given the excellent quality, functionality and finish. These pants have a long lifespan and offer great comfort and protection during outdoor adventures. If you are willing to pay a little more for high quality, then the ThruDark ‘Charge’ is undoubtedly a wise choice.

In the Netherlands, ThruDark is exclusively available at GearPoint.
