Some Explanations After Julien Lopez’s Avalanche in Kappl Austria

“After the decision to stop the competition in Kappl / Austria, we thought we would catch up with Julien Lopez and the mountain guides to try to understand what happened and how Julien is doing after his scare. Ondanks uitgebreide veiligheid maatregelen (waaronder meerdere keren het checken van de sneeuwlagen en het af laten gaan van 15 explosieven van elk 2.5 kilo zwaar) ontstaat er tijdens de wedstrijd een lawine. De Fransman Julie Lopez loopt op dat moment terug de berg op om zijn ski’s op te halen die hij heeft verloren na een valpartij. De sneeuw begint te glijden en dankzij het snel laten afgaan van zijn ABS (die alle deelnemers verplicht dragen samen met complete lawine uitrusting) lukt het Julien om op de sneeuw te blijven drijven.
