The Vallon Freshwater Revivals fishing glasses | Review

The Vallon Freshwater Revivals fishing glasses

With the Vallon Freshwater Revivals I have a new set of fishing glasses for the first time in years and they feel like a big upgrade. Working as a Gamekeeper and Ghillie as well a running my own outdoor pursuits business, I am outdoors all year round and equipment gets put through it’s paces, my previous fishing glasses hazy with the lenses prone to popping out. It was time for new lenses.

The Freshwater Revivals feature Vallon’s advanced V52 optics, known for their exceptional clarity and polarization. These lenses have a brown tint that not only enhances depth perception but also improves contrast, built for activities like sightseeing, inshore fishing, or being in environments with changing light conditions. Additionally, the frame of these sunglasses is made from recycled fishing nets that are transformed into a highly durable and resilient nylon polyamide material.

Fly casting instruction on a highland loch in sleet & snow

On a cold damp February afternoon a client requested a lesson on single hand casting to refine his technique as he continues his fishing journey with the start of the fishing season soon to be upon us. There was no better time to sport my newer, more encompassing fishing glasses for a trip to the hills.

Design

When a nice new olive green set of Vallon Freshwater glasses arrived they certainly grabbed my attention. With a large wrap around design the Revival’s allow for a great view of the water and fantastic protection from unexpected, incoming fishing hooks or flies.

Comfort

They are lightweight glasses for the size and they sit very comfortably with or without a hat with no movement as you lean over to do tasks such as tying a fly or netting a fish. The frame provides plenty of clearance for the lens to avoid contact with eye brows and getting natural greases around the top of the lens.

Clarity

The freshwater Revivals have ridiculously crisp, clear lenses in my opinion and the category 3, polarised lenses do a fanatic job reducing light glare off the surface of water. Spotting fish is lot easier with them also being dark enough to double up as sunglasses.

Protection

Vallon also provide a sturdy cordura coyote brown coloured case with a strong clip and it even has a molle style velcro fastener to more securely mount your glasses case to your fishing vest or backpack. I was pretty quick to find out the case also floats well if you thumble it into the water.

Final Verdict

The Vallon Freshwater Revivals is a worthy pair of fishing glasses for my escapades going into 2024 season, they knock the socks off the competitor brands at half the price for £110/€125. With the added sustainable use of recycled fishing nets to produce the frames they are nice to the touch as well as the mind.
