This year Fjällräven has wholly updated the ‘Greenland’ collection – from 1968. Can be used both in the city and during outdoor activities. The Fjällräven Greenland is made of durable wind and water resistant G-1000 Eco-fabric. 65% recycled polyester, 35% organic cotton, to be impregnated with Greenland Wax for extra protection against weather influences.
Fully revised the fit. Two chest pockets with overlaps and buttons. Two pleated pockets with overlaps and openings on the sides and an inside pocket with a zipper. Well-fitting hood. Two-way zipper with a protective transfer. Double layers of fabric on the shoulders and elbows. Cuffs with buttons.
Fit & comfort
Despite the custom fit, the Greenland jacket remains a decent – almost workwear approaching – coat and is very comfortable. Even during active movement such as climbing, the jacket stays comfortable, it ‘does not’ pull and you do not feel that it is in the way. Also, after repeatedly sanding along trees and stones/rocks, I have to say that the material holds well. I knew that from my experience with trousers of the G-1000 fabric, but it is nice to see that when processing the G-1000 in a jacket.
In less warm weather the jacket can be combined with a softshell, and the jacket remains comfortable.
Weather resistance & Breathability
The weather resistance of the Fjällräven Greenland jacket is based on a traditional organic approach. This has everything to do with the use of the G-1000 fabric.
The jacket is pre-impregnated with Greenland Wax. A mix of beeswax and paraffin. It ensures that the jacket is water-repellent. You notice that especially when the jacket is new, you will see that the water stays on it. After a period of wearing and washing, the wax will go off and become less water-repellent.
In some cases, this is pleasant, for example, warmer conditions. Less wax then ensures that the jacket is ‘cooler’ and breathes better. I have weathered both warm weather and light rain and heavy downpours with a coat. Especially when the jacket is new, it is very resistant to rain, although in the course of time the water will pass through a heavy rain shower.
Features
This inside chest pocket with zipper is easily accessible while wearing the jacket. It is really a simple jacket that is provided with what you need. What you see is what you get, so no advanced bells and whistles. What really appeals to me personally.
The hood is simple, without adjustments. The cuffs are fastened with press studs. Also nice is the two-way zipper. Make sure that you close the bottom push button otherwise the zipper – for example when squatting – sometimes unzips.

Looks
I think it’s a nicely designed coat. As I described earlier, it makes you think of work clothes. The style is simple yet advanced. The traditional materials, cotton and metal press studs together ensure a modest yet classic style. In short, I would describe it as ‘functional fashion’ where functional and style come together.
Conclusion
The Fjällräven Greenland Jacket is well designed. Simple and durable. The jacket and meets the requirements for outdoor use. For a multi-day trek, I prefer a ‘real’ hardshell.
