Rab Kangri Gore-Tex Paclite Plus Jacket | Review

Having encountered the Rab brand numerous times on trekking platforms, I was eager to try one of their products myself. When the opportunity to review the Kangri jacket presented itself, I jumped at it and planned a 10km hike through Zuid Kennemerland National Park.

Fit & Comfort

I received the Rab Kangri Gore-Tex Paclite Plus jacket in a size M, in the black, one of the options available. The sizing is spot-on, allowing you to comfortably layer up without feeling constricted.

Rab excels in the fit and comfort department. The regular fit, coupled with ample adjustability at the waist, hood, and cuffs, ensures a snug yet flexible feel. Articulated sleeves and pit zips provide extra breathability, granting you the freedom to move comfortably during strenuous activities. And let’s not overlook the helmet-compatible hood with a reinforced peak for enhanced visibility – Rab has thought of everything to elevate your outdoor experiences. During my hike, I found the jacket incredibly comfortable. It has a snug fit but without hindering my movement, almost like a cosy second skin as I trekked the planned 10km loop.

Specifications/Features

The Rab Kangri Gore-Tex Paclite Plus jacket is tailor-made for adventurers who demand top-tier performance. Crafted from recycled materials, it’s an eco-conscious choice without compromising on quality. What truly sets this jacket apart is its GORE-TEX Paclite technology – a lightweight 2.5-layer construction boasting an impressive waterproof rating of 28,000mm and an RET rating of <9, guaranteeing that even the fiercest downpour won’t dampen your spirits.

Now, let’s delve into the RET rating for a moment. While some high RET-rated gear can feel suffocating, Rab deftly addresses this issue with their 2.5-Layer construction, making this jacket exceptionally breathable. This jacket allows moisture to escape, ensuring your comfort during all your adventures. Moreover, it’s as durable as they come, featuring abrasion-resistant fabric that can withstand nature’s harshest challenges. This jacket is at a high price-point but you get what you pay for.

My experience

Returning to my hike in Zuid Kennemerland, things got quite windy, as one might expect. However, this jacket excelled at keeping the wind at bay, keeping me warm and protected even as the gusts picked up. As I ventured deeper into the dunes, the sky darkened, and rain clouds loomed. That’s when I truly appreciated the jacket’s prowess in keeping me dry. When the rain began to fall, I felt a profound sense of relief. The Gore-Tex material lived up to its name, and I remained completely dry, even as the rain intensified.

After completing my loop, I couldn’t help but be impressed by the effectiveness of the Rab Kangri Gore-Tex Paclite Plus jacket, making it my current go-to choice when the weather takes a turn for the worse.
