MoG Shelter Touch Merino Winter Gloves – lightweight protection for cold conditions

MoG Shelter Touch Merino Winter Gloves – lichtgewicht bescherming voor koude omstandigheden

Cold hands can be a serious hindrance, whether you are active outdoors in nature, out walking the dog, or need to keep your fingers supple in a cold work environment. Winter gloves come in all shapes and sizes, but finding a model that is waterproof, offers sufficient grip and at the same time keeps your hands warm without sacrificing freedom of movement remains a challenge. For Gearlimits MoG Shelter Touch Merino Winter Gloves review.

The MoG Shelter Touch Merino Winter Gloves promise a combination of comfort, protection and functionality. But how do they really perform in practice? I tested them intensively for a month in various conditions, from walks through the snow to precision work on the shooting range. This is my experience.

Construction and material

The MoG Shelter Touch gloves are constructed from three layers. The outer layer is a durable, seamless knitted nylon, which provides flexibility and a tight fit. The inside is lined with Merino wool, which not only provides warmth, but also wicks away moisture and is antibacterial. In between is a waterproof and breathable PU membrane that offers protection against rain and light cold. The construction is completely seamless, which contributes to comfort and freedom of movement.

Fit and comfort

The gloves close tightly around the hand and offer an ultra-slim fit. This ensures high dexterity, which is especially useful for tasks that require precision, such as operating a smartphone or handling small objects. However, it is advisable to look carefully at the size chart and consider a size up if you are in between sizes, as the fit can be tight.

Performance in cold and wet conditions

I tested the MoG Shelter Touch gloves in temperatures down to -7°C. In these conditions, they provide sufficient warmth for light to moderate activities, such as hiking or cycling. Once the temperature drops further or if you sit still for longer periods, an extra layer of gloves may be needed.

In terms of waterproofing, they score well. Thanks to the three-layer construction, your hands stay dry even in light rain or while handling wet objects. The water column test shows an impressive score of 14,310 mm on average, which proves that they can withstand moisture just fine.

Grip and functionality

The silicone MoG print on the palm and fingers ensures a solid grip on both dry and wet surfaces. This makes them suitable for various applications, from outdoor activities to professional use in cold warehouses or offices. Moreover, they are touchscreen-compatible, allowing you to operate your smartphone without taking off your gloves.

Durability and purpose of use

Although robust to the touch, the gloves are not intended for heavy-duty work such as lugging boxes, bricks or other intensive construction and moving activities. However, if used correctly, they will last a long time and retain their flexibility and protective properties.

Conclusion

The MoG Shelter Touch Merino Winter Gloves are an excellent choice for those looking for a lightweight, flexible and waterproof glove suitable for everyday use in cold conditions. The combination of a tight fit, good grip and touchscreen compatibility makes them versatile for both casual and professional users. For extremely cold conditions, they are best worn as an inner glove or in combination with a thicker glove.

If MoG introduces more colour variants in the future, such as olive green or camouflage motifs, these gloves could appeal to an even wider audience. For now, they remain a functional and stylish option for the winter months.

In the Netherlands, MoG is available at GearPoint.
