The North Face introduces an innovation in outdoor clothing: Ventrix. This midlayer technology transports unnecessary heat during outdoor activities through a dynamic system of very small ventilation holes that open and close based on movement and effort. This optimizes body temperature.
The form of insulation has already won a gold award on ISPO Awards this year and keeps the person wearing it warm without overheating. It does this through tlaser perforated micro holes in places where you will perspire the most.
When you are inactive, these holes remain shut and keep you warm. However, if you begin to move, the holes open and provide breathability that helps regulates body heat.
The idea is that you won’t have to take your midlayer on and off as you switch between being active and resting. Ventrix is lightweight and has a rainproof and woven outer layer. The technology is used in The North Face hiking and Summit Series collections.
The athletes’ wishes were at the heart of the development of Ventrix “Athlete Tested, Expedition Proven”. The technology has therefore been extensively tested in some of the most extreme mountain environments in the world.
I wore the Ventrix ™ Jacket from the Summit Series during an expedition on the south wall of Shishapangma, an eight-thousand meter peak in Tibet, ” says David Göttler, The North Face® athlete and big mountain alpinist. “I used the jacket as my top layer. As I was climbing and trekking at lower height it kept me protected against cold winds. As we approached the summit I used it together with a top layer hardshell. With these most important layers, I climbed to the summit of eight kilometers without being hot or cold – the dream of every alpinist. The jacket blocked the cold of the wind perfectly, but offered enough freedom to move efficiently and easily. So I could concentrate completely on the task I had to execute.
