Garmin breidt haar productlijn uit met de VIRB action camera. Net als de GoPro, is de VIRB ontwikkeld om HD videobeelden vast te leggen tijdens action sport activiteiten als skiën, surfen, mountainbiken, parachutespringen, etc. De VIRB is voorzien van een stevige en waterdichte behuizing met een IPX-7 classificering (= 30 minuten tot 1 meter diepte onder water zonder problemen). Het 1.4-inch kleurenscherm heeft een minimaal stroomverbruik. Met de VIRB kan drie uur HD videomateriaal (1080p) worden opgenomen, in tegenstelling tot de 2 uur en 15 minuten video (720p) van de GoPro. Wordt dit de GoPro killer? De VIRB (€ 299) en VIRB Elite (€ 399) zijn verkrijgbaar vanaf eind september 2013.
